The Last Seven Words on the Cross 3 “Woman, behold, your son... Behold, your mother.”
New Update
“When Jesus saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, ‘Woman, behold, your son!’ Then He said to the disciple, ‘Behold, your mother!’ From that hour the disciple took her into his own household.” (John 19:26?27) ...

Why was Jesus, the Son of God, crowned with thorns?

“The soldiers took Him away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium), and they called together the whole Roman cohort. They dressed Him up in purple, and after twisting a crown of thorns, they put it on Him.” (Mark 15:16-17)

When He came down to this earth to save mankind from sins, Jesus had to wear the crown of thorns. Why did He do so?

1. The reason that Jesus had the thorny crown on the head and bled

The reason that Jesus had to wear a thorny crown and shed His blameless blood is to redeem us from the sins that we have committed in our thoughts.
We have a memory system in our brain that stores knowledge. What we have learned since birth is saved into the memory system along with our emotion, which is called ‘knowledge.’ Each one has different background and learning, and with the same teaching, they have different values and criterion of judging between good and evil according to how they have acquired them.
When the knowledge stored in the brain is brought back to remembrance, it is called ‘thought.’ Since they have different knowledge, at that same sight, some consider it as good but others evil. Satan controls the mind of sinful man, and their thoughts are largely against the truth.
Therefore, we should diligently listen to the Word, make it our spiritual bread, and practice it saying “Yes” and “Amen” to be transformed by the renewing of the mind.

2. How to throw away fleshly thoughts and to have spiritual thoughts

While listening to God’s words, you may say “Amen” to what aligns with your thoughts and believe it. But you may not believe what doesn’t align with your knowledge and experience. You may get involved in the ideas that are against God’s will, which are called ‘fleshly thoughts’ (Romans 8:7).
We should demolish the fleshly thoughts that hinder us from believing God’s words and from obeying His will. We have to destroy speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).
What should we do to get rid of such sin we have in our mind? We should purify our heart. Those evils in our heart will bring many fleshly thoughts.
The lust of the flesh causes us to seek the things of the world and the greater lust of the flesh triggers us to commit the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21). The lust of the eyes provokes our mind through what we see and hear and causes us to seek carnal things. Because of this lust of the eyes, many people seek secular and lustful things of the world.
The boastful pride of life is the attribute seeking the worldly pleasures and showing off oneself. Because of this boastful pride of life, we want to be exalted and praised, and to gain greater honor and power. We cannot fundamentally sanctify our heart until we get rid of the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the boastful pride of life. Only then, can we have spiritual thoughts that are pleasing to God.

3. God prepares a beautiful crown in heaven for us.

When Jesus wore the thorny crown and bled, it opened the door that we can be forgiven of the sins we have in the thoughts and have a beautiful crown in heaven in the future.
In heaven there are different crowns according to what kind of life we have led on earth. An imperishable crown is given to those who accepted the Lord and struggled to throw away sins (1 Corinthians 9:25), the crown of glory is given to those who have thrown away sins and lived by the words of God and glorified Him (1 Peter 5), and the crown of life is awarded to those who have accomplished sanctification by getting rid of every form of evil and been faithful until death in love for God (James 1:12; Revelation 2:10).
And the crown of righteousness and the crown of gold are given to those who have been wholly sanctified and performed all their duties with the God-pleasing faith (2 Timothy 4:8; Revelation 4:4). Our loving God will reward us with different crowns according to our sanctification and loyalty.
