[Trip Report: Africa] Inauguration of DR Congo's President

The trip to Africa from December 3rd to 17th, 2006, was made possible by the invitation to the inauguration ceremony of Mr. Joseph Kabila as president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo after "The 2006 Democratic Republic of the Congo Miracle Healing Festival with Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee" in February 2006. Produced at the request of the DR Congo government, Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee's congratulatory message on the occasion of the inauguration was broadcast the evening of December 5 on the state-run RTNC TV throughout the country. Rev. Dr. Lee's message, carried on the channel's highest-rated "Seven O'clock News," became an instant hit and was transmitted even to Europe and the Middle East where even more people were able to watch the recording. The inauguration ceremony took place on Wednesday, December 6 with presidents from 11 countries and dignitaries from even more nations in attendance. I attended the inauguration with Rev. Peter Kim (Manmin's missionary to DR Congo) and whenever we were asked from where we were, we would say, "Korea!" and people would immediately remember Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee and exclaim, "Oh! Dr. Lee!" In interviews, the president's spokesperson, his counselor on foreign relations, and his twin sister reminisced "The 2006 DR Congo Miracle Healing Festival" and expressed their appreciation to Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee. I could tell from my conversations with them that the Senior Pastor had already settled in their heart as their spiritual leader. The next day, I presented to President François Bozizé and First Lady Monique Bozizé of Central African Republic the DVD's featuring Rev. Dr. Lee's overseas crusades, and the First Lady asked if Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee would come to CAR and conduct a crusade there. I also took an opportunity to share the news of Manmin with many ministers and government officials. On Thursday, December 14, I was invited to Côte d'Ivoire's presidential residence at the invitation of the President Laurent Gbagbo and the First Lady Simone Gbagbo. I presented them with the Senior Pastor's written works as well as DVD's featuring his overseas crusades, and they did not forget to express their gratitude to Rev. Dr. Lee.

From this trip I learned the importance of having a true spiritual leader, the desire and the need for God's power found in countless people, and the prestige of Manmin Joong-ang Church on a world stage.
