Sister Minjae Cheong, aged 29, Geoje Manmin Church in South Korea
After graduating from college in 2007, I was busy working for a private English academy and tutoring some students in my hometown of Geoje. I had no free time and grew weary in both body and mind. Since 2010 I have only tutored a few students. I earned a large income, but I felt dissatisfied with my life because I had an unstable job and couldn't go on a trip or study in the graduate school in translation and interpretation that I had wanted to attend.
On September 25, 2011, by the guidance of my aunt, Senior Deaconess Sunok Chung, I began to attend Geoje Manmin Church (Pastor Seungmin Lee). I sometimes skipped worship services or taught students on Sunday. In February 2012, Rev. Heesun Lee, Manmin World Guidance Pastor, came to our church to preach at the anniversary service. She advised me to keep whole Sabbath.
To obey her, I didn't work on Sunday. Then I experienced an amazing work. Even though I stopped teaching a high school student on Sunday who paid me a larger fee than any other student, I earned the same amount of monthly income as before. Hallelujah!
Geoje has few private academies for high school students, so there are many private tutors and the market is very competitive. Geoje students study at school until late at night, so they study with private tutors mostly on weekends.
Around 12 A.M. on February 27 in 2013, I had a car accident. A drunk driver in a midsize vehicle ran into my compact car. He broke his hipbone, but I just got a minor bruise on my knee though my car was so badly dented that I had to scrap it. God protected me in a big life-threatening car accident.
It served as a turning point in my Christian life. I thought I kept Sabbath, but it was not keeping the Sabbath completely. I sometimes didn't attend Sunday Services and I was often late for services. I had met God who blessed me, but I hadn't cut myself off from my attachments to the world yet.
I thoroughly repented after the accident. I concluded I was now living on borrowed time and gave thanks to God. I started looking forward to Sunday, attended church decently dressed, and worshiped in spirit and truth. I started to have good fellowship with church members and fulfilled my duty with joy and thanks. And I tried to cry out in prayer. Then I received overflowing blessing. Though I didn't advertise my class, there were too many students for me to accept all of them.
God gives me wisdom every moment in teaching students. I feel no one likes doing something that is not interesting, so I based my teaching methodology on 'fun'. I teach with active and loud voice and use students' names in examples to increase their concentration. I sometimes use biblical stories or the Bible verses in teaching and try my best to set my teaching to students' learning levels or situations. I also give them regular level tests so that they can test and study under pressure. I prepare gifts for students who studied hard for the school tests regardless of the test result. During vacations, I give them double lectures but I receive the same fee.
I also pray for them and care about their character building. In doing so, I am earning students' and their parents' trust and more income in God's blessing. I give all thanks and glory to God who allows me to feel His love, stand on the rock of faith, and live with hope for New Jerusalem.
