Nowadays, it is very hard to see rainbows because of serious air pollution. However, Manmin members have constantly seen all kinds of extraordinary rainbows in and outside of Korea.
An extraordinary rainbow first appeared in the sky over Manmin Central Church on May 15, 1998. A number of the members together witnessed the rainbow surrounding the sun and shouted with excitement.
Since then, all kinds of extraordinary rainbows including circular, linear, K-shaped, and shape-symmetric rainbows have appeared for 19 years in the sky over the central church, its branch churches, overseas crusades, pastors' seminars, handkerchief healing meetings, and Manmin Summer Retreat. When the church's mission teams went on a mission trip, their flights' shadows were always surrounded by a two-, three-, or fourfold circular rainbow.
A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that is caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets or ice crystals in the air, resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a seven-colored arc. However, in the sites of Manmin's ministry, rainbows have formed regardless of the weather and temperature, and sometimes the same-shaped rainbows appeared at the same time in the different sites.
People think of a rainbow as a sign of good luck or hope. Rainbows are mentioned in several books of the Bible. After the judgment of the flood, in Genesis 9:13 God said, "I set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth." Ezekiel 1:28 reads, "As the appearance of the rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the surrounding radiance such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD…"
Revelation 4:3 says that there was a rainbow around the throne of God and in Revelation 10:1 it states that a strong angel was coming out of heaven, clothed with a cloud and the rainbow was upon his head.
What, then, do all kinds of extraordinary rainbows including circular ones that Manmin have witnessed spiritually symbolize? God shows a rainbow around the throne as a sign of a covenant as people share tokens like rings as a sign of a promise.
Each of the different shaped rainbows has a different meaning. A circular rainbow means 'You and I, all of Us are one in the truth.' Two-, three-, and fourfold rainbows show the divided heavens, thereby allowing people to understand the spiritual realm and have more hope for the eternal Heaven. Various symmetrically shaped rainbows stand for the promise that 'Everything is accomplished in God's space,' that is, everything will be achieved in the works of God.
By showing such rainbows, God has been leading the church members to believe God's covenant and live happily even on the earth. It is also for us to have hope for the most beautiful place in Heaven, New Jerusalem, that houses God's throne. Let's give all thanks and glory to God who blesses us to feel Him more closely and live with hope for Heaven all the time.
